The Evolution of Illinois Clean Energy Markets

With the passage of the Future Energy Jobs Act, the Illinois clean energy market is on the verge of a major breakthrough. The modernized Illinois RPS will drive require more than 1,350 MW of new wind and 3,000 MW of new solar by 2030. But there’s more to this story. FEJA is just the latest in a long series of laws and policies in Illinois that have set the state up for clean energy leadership.

This webinar will provide some of the history and context necessary to understand the evolution of Illinois energy markets. ELPC Senior Attorney Brad Klein will cover the major laws and policies that are shaping the market in Illinois, from electric service restructuring law in 1997, through the original RPS and creation of the Illinois Power Agency in 2007, the “smart grid” law in 2011, and FEJA in 2017.

Brad will also provide an overview of other key policies and hot topics in Illinois, including interconnection standards, municipal aggregation, and microgrid development.
