The Forum Where Leading Canna Operators Connect with Top Regulators & Testing Experts

The opportunity for operators in the canna space is startling. Estimates suggest that the combined medical and adult-use market may be worth $5 billion by 2019 in California alone, while the forecasts for national and global canna markets are revised, upward, on a daily basis. The demonstrated ability of cannabis use to lower America’s $12 billion-plus opioid drug tab suggests that those estimates may be conservative.

However, in order to take advantage of this remarkable opportunity to do good and do well, industry players must navigate a new and evolving regulatory framework. The introduction of regulation in the space has created novel challenges in order to ensure product safety, manage liability and deliver efficacy for every part of the canna supply chain. To take just one example: testing labs suggest that 80% of California-produced cannabis still tests positive for pesticides, which has resulted in the scheduled introduction of mandatory testing in the state starting in July 2018. State regulators and health officials—in unmatched numbers—will be sharing notes and driving operators towards uniform testing, labeling, operational standards, protocols and best practices.

Building on three previous editions of this meeting, Infocast is proud to present Canna West 2018: Compliance, Testing & Product Safety. The meeting will be held in Los Angeles, considered the single largest urban market for cannabis in the world. In 2018 there will be no better to place to hear from, and share viewpoints with regulators; learn from peers; and absorb best practices for cannabis compliance, cultivation, testing, manufacturing, extractions, product development, labeling, distributing and retailing cannabis products. Please review the agenda and list of speakers—we’re confident you will find this a must-attend event.

Steep Hill

Steep Hill is an independently owned and operated cannabis analysis, biotechnology, and research and development facility. We seek to empower cultivators, dispensaries, manufacturers, and consumers with a transparent understanding of cannabis science.

Users of cannabis products depend on testing to ensure that the products are safe for use/consumption and that the labeled potency can be trusted. Proper testing is imperative to this assurance, and confidence in the laboratories that perform this testing may be achieved through accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025 Standard.

A2LA offers two accreditation tracks for cannabis testing laboratories. Both offer independent, third-party accreditation assessments crafted to meet both the Medical Marijuana and Recreational Adult Use markets. The first track consists of using ISO/IEC 17025:2005 as the primary framework, along with any additional, state-specific requirements. A2LA also offers an optional second tract, which adds to the first accreditation track the additional accreditation requirements derived from Americans for Safe Access (ASA) Patient Focused Certification (PFC) Program for testing laboratories. In this way, A2LA can provide assurance that all state regulatory as well as industry-specific requirements are being met by the laboratory.

EVIO Labs is the premier provider of analytical testing, advisory services and research serving California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts and Oregon. We offer independent and quality assured state compliant analytical testing services,
as well as a full range of informational testing. In addition, EVIO Labs offers consultative services related to product development, licensing and research and development.

TGunther Group

TGunther Group (TGG) is a veteran-owned consulting organization that works with cannabis regulators, accrediting bodies, and businesses to create compliance programs through policy, training and regulatory development. TGG has helped clients with ISO 17025, FOCUS, NELAC, and OSHA compliance and is working with state and national entities in the creation of cannabis standards.

Through a partnership with software provider PowerDMS, TGG supports the legal cannabis market with the use of online compliance tools. PowerDMS condenses cabinets full of paper into a single, searchable online source that automatically disseminates, collects signatures on, and tracks an organization’s important policies, procedures, accreditation/certification, and training. Having this single repository for critical content is essential for every business. Over 2,800 organizations in highly-liable industries including cannabis, healthcare, law enforcement, fire services, banking, manufacturing, retail, education, and aviation use PowerDMS to manage their compliance operations. TGG golden rule, “if it isn’t documented, it didn’t happen!”

International Accreditation Service

Headquartered in Southern California, IAS is a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation that has been providing accreditation services since 1975. IAS accredits testing laboratories to ISO/IEC Standard 17025 and industry specific standards.

This accreditation demonstrates to the marketplace and to regulators that the laboratories havemet the accreditation requirements and are periodically monitored for compliance. IAS accredits a wide range of companies and organizations including governmental entities, commercial businesses, and professional associations. IAS accreditation programs are based on recognized national and international standards that ensure domestic and/or global acceptance of its accreditations.

IAS is in compliance with ISO/IEC Standard 17011, General Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies (CABs). IAS is also a signatory to the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), both international organizations that form a unified system for evaluating and recognizing competent accreditation bodies worldwide.

Founded in 2014, PathogenDx Inc developed, validated and sold the only microbial testing product that detects human pathogens to the one colony forming unit (CFU) standard AND counts CFUs for Total Yeast and Mold, Total Aerobic Bacteria and 44 other microbials simultaneously, in under six hours. The patented PDx technology is simple, executed at ambient temperature and requires limited special equipment! One lab assistant can process up to 96 SAMPLES from preparation to results in one shift!   Indoor grows can utilize our collection kits and test their rooms for pathogens even before they introduce one plant into the area, removing risk of contamination. With PathogenDx, the consumers receive validation that their medicine is clean and safe.  Labs that run the PathogenDx technology will provide the specificity, sensitivity and consistency demanded by the public and all within six (6) hours!

ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB)

ANAB is your partner in ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. ANAB validates the technical competence of cannabis testing laboratories by a thorough review of the testing processes whether for potency, pesticides or any other state program driven test.

ANAB accreditation can provide a solid foundation on which to build an organization that can withstand the challenges of the marketplace by demonstration technical competency. The principles of the standard can help involve employees in working toward a shared goal, high quality data to support the industry. Investment in ANAB accreditation helps protect the public’s health by ensuring that regulatory agencies, can act quickly on high quality analytical data from accredited laboratories when those laboratories detect a problem in the product supply.

In addition to providing laboratory related accreditation, ANAB offers accreditation for proficiency testing providers, reference material producers, and certification bodies, including certification bodies for a number of GFSI-recognized certification programs.

Our Scientists are Agricultural Industry World-Class Experts and California State Qualified Professionals; in addition we are Doctorate Chemists with decades of analytical laboratory management. In addition to required tests to allow for sale of your production we can monitor your crop for compliance. Early detection of contamination that can fail your crop will save grow time and expenses. We guide you to producing a high yield, legally compliant crop. Many crops are not always tended to 24×7 by the financial owner and people who have access could cause irreparable damage. The source of contamination could be the clones to start the grow. Some of the nutrients and pesticides used have illegal ingredients that can and do cause failure. We can test all these sources. With early warning you can take corrective action and salvage a growth cycle. Pests may hitch a ride on workers clothes. We look for traces of pests using genetic analysis. No surprises at harvest time. A clean crop is healthy success for everyone.
