A New Era of Transmission Expansion Begins: Hear for the First Time How New FERC Orders Will Affect Transmission

In response to the urgent need to integrate an enormous wave of renewable energy projects, on May 13 FERC released two long-awaited draft Orders to revise transmission planning, cost allocation, and permitting processes. This series of profound reforms will impact regional planning, cost allocation, permitting, the use of advanced transmission technologies, and other factors to help accelerate the ability to quickly add capacity to the grid. What opportunities and challenges will these new rules have for transmission owner/operators, investors, developers of new renewable generation, and the entire range of power industry stakeholders?

Infocast has organized this Transmission & Interconnection Summit 2024 to provide the most up-to-date and detailed analysis of these new dynamics as they impact the entire power sector. The 2024 event will continue Infocast’s decades-long tradition of bringing together the critical policymakers, senior executives, senior stakeholders, and leading industry experts who are actively at the forefront of the efforts to meet the needs of the clean energy transition.

These active market participants will provide uniquely deep dives into key topics including:

  • How will the new FERC Order 1920 and Order 1977 affect regional transmission planning, cost allocation, siting, and other critical processes?
  • Where do FERC Order No. 2023 implementation efforts stand in RTO/ISO regions and regulated markets, and how will the interconnection of existing and new clean energy projects be affected?
  • Will FERC Order 1977, in conjunction with the DOE’s recently announced National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors study proposals, help accelerate permitting of regional transmission projects?
  • Will the identification in Order 1920 of specific factors required to be considered in multi-benefits planning processes help drive more consistency in assessing the costs and benefits of regional projects?
  • How are DOE technical and financing programs accelerating interconnection processes and transmission investments?
  • What impacts are cluster studies having on reducing queues, and how are renewable energy developers changing their strategies as a result?
  • How can the vast planned amounts of offshore wind be best incorporated in the grid?
  • What new approaches to reducing the time, cost, and labor intensity of interconnection studies and engineering are emerging?
  • Will Grid-Enhancing Technologies (GETs) get a significant uptick in deployment due to new requirements to incorporate them in transmission planning?
  • How can the enormous demand growth from new data centers and clean energy manufacturing facilities be better incorporated in the grid?

Attend Transmission & Interconnection Summit 2024 — after over 20 years still the only event focusing on the business and business environment of transmission asset investment and development — and get the answers you need. Review our remarkable agenda and faculty and reserve your place today!
